N-NBoys Score Two Relay Wins At Section 10 Invitational Meet

POTSDAM - The Franklin Academy boys kept an undefeated season intact while the Canton girls got on the board with their first win at last Saturday night's Section 10 Invitational Meet staged at the SLUfieldhouse.

Along with the full contingent of NAC schools, the fifth meet of the current indoor season drew several squads from the Champlain Valley and Central New York region to push the field to 17 team for both the boys and girls meets. In a familiar showing atop the boys standings, FA led the way with 66 points while South Jeff placed second with 57 and Canton took third with 46.

The Canton girls, meanwhile, halted FA's streak of wins by amassing 94 points to win their first meet of the winter Saranac Central placed second with 85.5 points and South Jeff took third with 67.5. FA slipped to fourth with 66 points.

The NAC regular season wraps up this Friday night at SLU starting at 6 p.m. The Section 10 Championship Meet is slated for Friday, February 26.

BOYS MEET RECAP

The Norwood-Norfolk boys finished tied for eighth with Saranac with 37 points. The Flyers were led by the quartet for Graham Stone, Kyle Palmer, Jon Eng and Jake Frego which teamed up to capture both the 3,200-meter relay in 8:34.8 and the 1,600-meter relay in 3:41.6. In between, Eng paced the 800 meters in 1:27.8 while Stone accounted for the other top individual effort N-N by placing third in the 1,000 meters.

The Potsdam Central boys also finished in the middle of the pack with 29 points. The combination of Shawn Lillie, T.J. Rimmer, Andrew Matott and Joe Bartlett highlighted the Sandstoner cause by teaming up to lead the 800-meter relay in 1:39.7. Bartlett provided the top individual finish for Potsdam by placing fifth in the high jump. Lillie finished seventh in the triple jump and Rimmer did likewise in the triple jump.

Massena'a Anto Almasian remained unbeaten in the shot put this winter, scoring his fifth win with a heave of 42'3". He also placed eighth in the 55-meter dash while Andrew Wheeler posted a third-place toss in the shot put.

James Whitehead accounted for the majority of the 9.5 points recorded by Salmon River, placing fifth in the 1,600 meters and seventh in the 300. Thomas Lauzon contributed a seventh-place finish in the 1,000 meters and an eighth-place showing in the 1,600.

GIRLS MEET RECAP

The Norwood-Norfolk girls were 12th in the team standings with 16 points. Kailyn Levison posted the top individual finish for the Lady Flyers, running fourth in the 1,000 meters. Marissa Caskinette placed sixth in the 300 and seventh in the long jump.

Kiana McDonough led Potsdam (10 points) with a fifth-place toss in the shot put.

For Salmon River (6.5 points), Sara Spaulding finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles and Rachel Benedict was sixth in the shot put while Kaitlin Patenaude placed eighth in the high jump.

Jessica Cunningham produced the only point scored by Massena with an eighth-place effort in the shot put.
