FA, OFA Girls Reach Overall Title Game
POTSDAM - Franklin Academy and OFA advanced to the title game of the Section 10 Overall Tournament after netting convincing semi-final round wins on Tuesday night at SUNY Potsdam's Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.
OFA 57, Brushton-Moira 45: In the first game of the night, the Class B champion Lady Blue Devils steadily worked their way to a 40-25 lead through three quarters and kept the Class C champion Lady Panthers at bay through the fourth to earn a chance to play for the overall Section 10 Championship on Friday night starting at 6 p.m. back at Maxcy Hall.
Senior Megan Morrison fired through a game-high 25 points to spark the OFA offesne. Mackenzie Cole and Meg Dodge netted 10 points apiece while Lindsay Drummond finished with seven, Chelsea Martin with three and Rosie Giglio with two.
Chenice Russell anchored the B-M offense with 11 points. She was later announced as a co-recipient of the Jan Reetz Award, which is presented annually by league officials to the Outstanding Girls Basketball player in Section 10, sharing the honor with Franklin Academy's Kelsey Johnson. Shayna Russell and Kristyn Trimm added eight points each followed by Jessica Jacques with six. Emily LaPage and Kelsey Manchester finished with four points apiece. Taylor Keck closed out the Lady Panther scoresheet with two points.
OFA improved to 14-7 with the win The Lady Panthers will now look to recover from their first loss in 21 games when they head into the New York State tournament.The Lady Huskies enter the overall title game at 18-1 while Harrisville takes a 16-4 record into the state Class D tournament.
