MENACING - FORT COVINGTON - A North Bangor man was charged by state police Wednesday with third-degree attempted assault, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and unlawful imprisonment.

Earl W. Harris, 24, of 336 Cold Springs Road, was accused of hitting a woman in the stomach and back, threatening her with a knife, and refusing to let her leave.

Mr. Harris was arraigned in Westville Town Court and ordered held in Franklin County Jail on $10,000 bail.

He is to appear in Fort Covington Town Court Tuesday.

CRIMINAL CONTEMPT - GOUVERNEUR - A Gouverneur man was arrested by village police on a Gouverneur Town Court warrant Thursday for criminal contempt.

Joshua R. Daniels, 28, of 52 Sterling St., violated an order of protection when he pushed Bridget L. Prashaw Feb. 3, police said.

Mr. Daniels was released under the custody of St. Lawrence County Probation.

ASSAULT - POTSDAM - Village police charged a Potsdam man Thursday with felony assault for allegedly hitting his fiance's children on two separate occasions this week.

Earlier in the week, Don M. Anson, 25, punched a five-year-old child in the eye, causing it to bruise, police said.

The second incident happened Thursday when Mr. Anson hit a 4-year-old in the lower back with a belt, causing a large welt and scrape, police said.

Police said their investigation began when they received a call Thursday from Child Protective Services reporting the allegation. Police charged Mr. Anson with two counts of second-degree assault.

He was arraigned in Potsdam Village Court and released under the supervision of the St. Lawrence County Probation Department.

UNSAFE BACKING - FORT COVINGTON - Malone-based state police ticketed Michelle S. Terrance, 27, of Brushton for unsafe backing Wednesday after she allegedly struck another vehicle while backing up in the Salmon River Central School parking lot. Terrance told police she failed to observe a vehicle operated by Michelle L. Feimann, 37, of Fort Covington, who was slowing behind her, and struck Feimann's vehicle.

CELL PHONE - MASSENA - Village police ticketed Jason M. Ward, 28, of Massena for using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle at 5:50 p.m. Thursday on North Main Street.
