Douglas B. Ashwood
MASSENA/DELTONA, Fla. - Mr. Douglas B. Ashwood, 92, formerly of Massena, passed away on February 22, 2010 at Orange City Nursing and Rehab Center where he had been a patient for approximately three weeks recovering from a broken hip.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Enterprise, Florida at a later date.
Interment services for Doug and his wife, Frances, will be held in the spring at Ogdensburg Cemetery with a Masonic Service for Doug conducted by the Massena Lodge #513. Local arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.
He is survived by a nephew, Richard Sias of Toronto, Ontario; and a niece, Ann Makowices of Baldwinsville.
He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Ashwood of Lake Placid.
He was born June 6, 1917 in Ogdensburg, the son of Miller and Effa Bicknell Ashwood. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and Clarkson College in Potsdam.
He married Frances D. Dow on July 12, 1936 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Charles Kennedy, officiating. Frances predeceased him on February 10, 2009.
Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Massena, where Doug worked at Alcoa as an accountant specialist, retiring in 1975 after over 34 years of service. After his retirement, Doug and Fran moved from Massena to Casselbury, Florida, where they resided until they built a home in Deltona.
He was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Enterprise, Florida. He was also a member of Massena Lodge #513 Free and Accepted Masons for over 65 years, 32nd Degree Mason, Syracuse, and The Bahia Shriners in Orlando, Florida. He enjoyed traveling and wood craftmaking for many years.
