Jack R. Peabody
OGDENSBURG - Funeral services for Mr. Jack R. Peabody, 80 a resident of the United Helpers Nursing Home and formerly of Route 37, Ogdensburg, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
There will be no public calling hours.
Mr. Peabody passed away on Saturday (March 6, 2010) at the United Helpers Nursing Home.
Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Donna Peabody of Heuvelton; a daughter, Jennifer Peabody, and a son, David Peabody, both of Ogdensburg; three grandchildren, Heather Peabody of Central Square, Dylan Peabody of Heuvelton and Tori Peabody of Ogdensburg.
Mr. Peabody was born on Jan. 8, 1930 in Syracuse, son of Raymond and Margaret Peabody.
In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1953 when he received his honorable discharge holding the rank of sergeant in rifle instruction.
Jack continued his education at the University of Buffalo and received a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy. In 1970, he again returned to college, earning a master's degree from SUNY Albany in Public Administration and a second master's degree in education from St. Lawrence University.
He married Donna Bennett on Jan. 12, 1952 in Buffalo.
Mr. Peabody began his working career with the Department of Mental Hygiene in Albany, where he worked for several years. In 1972, the couple relocated to Ogdensburg, where he began his career at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center as the director of Rehabilitation.
Mr. Peabody retired in 1989. After retiring, he continued his career as a registered occupational therapist specializing with children.
He was a past member of the Ogdensburg Rotary and Kenmore Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed daily rounds of golf, fishing on the St. Lawrence, and spending time with his adoring grandchildren.
