SECOND-DEGREE BURGLARY - MASSENA - A 21-year-old Massena woman was jailed Tuesday morning after being charged with entering her ex-boyfriend's residence and trashing his house.
Massena-based state police charged Rebecca M. Newcombe of 14 Church St., Massena, with second-degree burglary. She was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric P. Gustafson and was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
She reportedly entered her ex-boyfriend's residence on the afternoon of Feb. 18 and dumped laundry detergent and cranberry juice on the floors in the living room and kitchen.
Isaiah M. Nezezon also told police more than $500 in loose change, several jars of babyfood and a checkbook were missing from his residence.
He noted he returned home on Feb. 19 and discovered the damage to his home. Nezezon told police he had spent the previous two nights at his parent's residence.
The incident reportedly took place on the day Nezezon had filed for custody of the daughter he and Newcombe have together. "My ex-girlfriend was distraught over it. I recorded a conversation between her and I where she stated she was going to send (someone) to my house to mess things up," he noted in the statement he signed for police.
UNTAXED CIGARETTES - MADRID - A Lowville woman was charged Monday for having untaxed cigarettes after state police stopped her car on Route 310.
State police in Canton said Patricia A. Baker, 50, of 7561 Glenn Road, was stopped after a patrol car license plate reader detected her vehicle insurance had lapsed.
Troopers allege she had 13 cartons of untaxed cigarettes and six rolls of untaxed chewing tobacco in her car. She was charged with felony evading cigarette tax and misdemeanor possession of untaxed cigarettes, and released on appearance tickets.
SEXUAL CONTACT - MASSENA - A Hogansburg man was jailed Tuesday for allegedly having sexual contact with a child.
Aristides Rojas, 38, of 520 McGee Road, was arrested on a St. Lawrence County Court warrant for first-degree sexual conduct and endangering the welfare of a child, state police said.
He is accused of engaging in at least two sexual acts with a child between the fall of 2004 and summer of 2006. The girl was 8 years old when the alleged acts began, according to court records.
He entered a not guilty plea in County Court this morning. He is scheduled to appear again in court March 16. Court officials said Mr. Rojas will apply for a public defender.
DWI - STOCKHOLM - A Massena man was charged Monday night with driving while intoxicated after state police found him driving an all-terrain vehicle along Route 11.
Joseph C. Marriott, 45, of 90 E. Hatfield St., was also charged with illegally operating an ATV on a public highway. State police in Massena allege his blood alcohol content was 0.16 percent.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS - FORT COVINGTON - Malone-based state police charged Brenda L. Travers, 23, of 567 County Route 4, Bombay, with second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment Monday. Travers was arraigned in Fort Covington Town Court and was released to reappear April 6.
