ATTEMPTED MURDER INDICTMENT - A Malone man was returned to Franklin County Jail after pleading not guilty to charges that he threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and pulled a knife on a police officer.
Eric S. Gonzales, 25, of 180 Webster St., Apt. 104, pleaded not guilty to a Franklin County grand jury indictment charging him with second-degree attempted murder, menacing of police officer, and two counts of second-degree criminal contempt, all felonies, in Franklin County Court on Monday. County Judge Robert G. Main Jr. returned Mr. Gonzales to Franklin County Jail without bail. He has been in jail custody since the Feb. 1 incident.
According to Malone Village Police Stephen J. Stone, village officers responded to the initial incident on Feb. 1 at an apartment complex on Webster Street, where police allegedly found Mr. Gonzales outside an apartment "threatening to kill a female acquaintance - an ex-girlfriend, actually."
"He made statements threatening her life, and his actions indicated that they may not have been idle threats," Chief Stone said.
Franklin County District Attorney Derek P. Champagne identified the ex-girlfriend as Lori A. Matthews.
Mr. Champagne says Mr. Gonzales is also charged with threatening the officer who responded to investigate the incident, Malone Village Police Officer Michael Crawford, with a knife.
"He threatened the responding officer with a knife," Chief Stone said. "The officer disarmed him by threatening him with deadly force."
No injuries were reported.
STOLEN PROPERTY - MASSENA - State police on Friday charged Mark W. Premo Jr., 26, and Kristin R. Miller, 24, both of 9289 Route 56, Norfolk, with felony fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Ms. Miller additionally was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.
The two were arrested at 4:15 p.m. at 29 Stearns Road for allegedly stealing a 1996 Chevrolet Camaro from William Goodreau in October. The vehicle was recovered in Raymondville.
Mr. Premo was sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Norfolk Town Court. Ms. Miller posted $2,000 bail and is to appear in the same court.
FORCIBLE TOUCHING - GOUVERNEUR - A Gouverneur man is summoned to town of LeRay Court to face a charge of forcible touching, a misdemeanor.
Richard J. Cronce, 21, County Route 24, Gouverneur, is accused of touching a woman's breast Dec. 14 at Taco Bell in LeRay, according to state police. He additionally is charged with a violation of probation.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - DEPEYSTER - Gerald H. Bennett, 36, of 4417 County Route 10, was charged Thursday with fourth-degree criminal mischief, child endangerment and second-degree harassment for allegedly tossing and breaking a plate while arguing with a woman who was feeding a baby, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said.
He was arraigned in town court and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $500 bail.
HARASSMENT -OSWEGATCHIE - State police charged Randy P. Weller, 55, Carthage, with second-degree harassment at 4:35 p.m. Friday after he allegedly pushed a woman during an argument over money.
Police said Mr. Weller was arguing with April L. Hawkins at her home, 4448 County Route 6, because she would not give him money that her husband had agreed to pay Mr. Weller for a car.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS - MASSENA - A 14-year-old boy was charged with third-degree criminal trespass at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Centre mall, state police said. He was banned from the mall after getting in a fight there March 5, according to troopers.
CRIMINAL CONTEMPT - MASSENA - State police charged Amanda L. Peets, 27, of Massena, with felony criminal contempt following an incident at 9:12 p.m. Saturday. Further information was not available, police said.
DWI - MALONE - Jason A. McMahon, 30, 39 Pine St., Moira, was charged by Malone-based state police for driving while intoxicated at 2:40 a.m. Saturday on the Houndsville Road with a blood alcohol content of 0.11 percent.
The threshold for state intoxication is 0.08.
AGGRAVATED DWI - POTSDAM - Bradley M. Crump, 19, Massena, was charged by village police with aggravated driving while intoxicated at 2:49 a.m. Saturday on Pierrepont Avenue. His blood alcohol content was not available.
Village police stopped Mr. Crump because he had a shopping cart from Walmart in the back of his truck, they said. Walmart declined to prosecute, so there were no larceny charges filed against Mr. Crump or his two unnamed passengers, police said.
AGGRAVATED HARASSMENT - MASSENA - Massena-based state police charged Bonnie S. Lamay, 42, of 35 Rockaway Drive, Massena, with second-degree aggravated harassment after she allegedly placed 16 unwanted phone calls to Lisa Rupert, Norfolk, in a two-hour period. During some of these calls, Ms. Lamay allegedly threatened to "take out" Ms Rupert. She was issued a ticket to appear Wednesday in Norfolk Town Court.
BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Massena-based state police arrested Trent A. Thomas, 19, of 98 Wishe Delormier Road, Akwesasne, Ont., on Sunday on a bench warrant signed by Massena Town Justice James M. Crandall for failure to appear in court.
Mr. Thomas was scheduled to appear Oct. 28 to face charges of driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was arraigned by Massena Justice Gerald P. Sharlow, posted $500 cash bail and was released to reappear March 24.
BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Village police picked up Adam E. Bandy, 28, of 160 St. Lawrence Ave., Massena, on a bench warrant at 11:10 p.m. Friday. The warrant had been issued in November 2007 after Mr. Bandy allegedly failed to pay $200 restitution on a criminal mischief charge.
He had been charged in January 2005 with fourth-degree criminal mischief after he allegedly kicked in a door at an apartment at 151 Water St. Mr. Brandy told police at the time he needed to enter the residence to get his girlfriend's belongings and her son's toys and medicine. He indicated his girlfriend's former roommate was not at the residence so after waiting for a period of time he kicked the door open.
He was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and was released after making his restitution payment.
AGGRAVATED DWI - MASSENA - Massena-based state police charged Alton L. Kelly, 58, of 25 Quinell Road, Brasher Falls, with aggravated driving while intoxicated, felony driving while intoxicated and moving from lane unsafely at 10:54 p.m. Sunday following a property damage accident on state Route 37C.
Mr. Kelly has a previous DWI conviction from Brasher Town Court on Oct. 20, 2009.
He was arraigned by Massena Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and was released under the supervision of probation, to reappear March 31.
ASSAULT - WADDINGTON - A St. Lawrence Avenue man is accused of allegedly spanking a 3-year-old boy hard enough to cause severe bruising of the child's buttocks.
Adam E. Bandy, 28, of 160 St. Lawrence Ave., was charged Friday with second-degree assault and child endangerment, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said.
The child protective services unit of the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services initiated the investigation.
Mr. Bandy was arraigned in town court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond. A temporary protection order was issued for the boy.
FELONY AGGRAVATED DWI - MASSENA - Massena-based state police charged Alton L. Kelly, 58, Brasher Falls, with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated and moving from lane unsafely following a traffic stop on Route 37 in the town of Massena. His blood alcohol content was 0.24 percent.
SEXUAL MISCONDUCT - MORRISTOWN - Anthony M. Parody, 17, of 4180 County Route 6, Edwardsville, was charged Saturday with sexual misconduct, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said.
He is accused of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl.
He was arraigned in Canton Town Court and released under probation supervision.
UNSAFE START - MASSENA - Village police ticketed Christopher M. Kormanyos, 33, of Massena for making an unsafe start at 3:32 p.m. Saturday at Water and East Orvis streets.
CELL PHONE - MASSENA - Village police ticketed Mathieu J. Wood, 27, of Massena for using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle following a traffic stop at 9:15 a.m. Monday on Main Street.
BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Massena-based state police picked up Matthew S. Jarrett, 24, of 7 Furnace St., Norfolk, on a bench warrant issued Aug. 29 when he failed to appear for a scheduled court appearance. He had been charged with petit larceny in April 2009 after he allegedly shoplifted an MP3 player from Sears. He was arraigned on the warrant by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and released on his own recognizance to reappear March 24 in town court.
