CANTON - The Computer Guys have opened a branch office in the Masonic Temple on Route 68.
"It's smaller in size than the one in Potsdam but the same in scope," said Kyle R. Matott, who owns the business with his brothers, Christopher J. and Benjamin M., and father, Wendell L. "Lee" Matott. "We're trying to broaden the customer base."
The shop near the SUNY Canton campus will help The Computer Guys break into the college market, as well as meet requests from customers who prefer not to drive to Potsdam, Mr. Matott said.
The Canton office will add two full-time employees and the possibility of several additional part-timers to The Computer Guys' staff of four full-timers and two part-timers.
The business services and repairs PC and Macintosh computers, and sells used, refurbished and new computers, along with accessories. It also buys and sells textbooks online and over the counter. Repairs will be done in the Canton shop, unless the computer requires specialty care. In that case, it will be taken to Potsdam.
The business opened Monday in the space formerly used by Grandma's Kids, which moved to Hodskin Street.
"We were pushing to open for finals week at SUNY Canton," Mr. Matott said.
Starting hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, although Saturday's hours may be curtailed in the summer. The telephone number is 714-3866.
