Massena, Brasher Falls, P-H Girls U-17 Booters Net Wins
Massena, Brasher Falls and Parishville-Hopkinton pulled away to convincing wins in Select Summer Soccer Girls U-17 Division games played on Monday.
Massena 5, Norwood-Norfolk 1: At the Norwood-Norfolk Central varsity field, Massena reeled off four second-half goals to put away the home team and raise its unbeaten record to 10-0.
Christina Schriver converted on a play set up by Taylor Romeo for the lone goal of the first half. Romeo connected from Emily Underwood early in the second half for what stood as the game-winning goal. Romeo and Schriver finished with two goals apiece to anchor the offensive effort. Underwood accounted for the other goal while Teresa Grigg and Sam Benedict each fashioned solo assists.
Taylor Peets and Ashley Hawn made a combined eight saves backstopping the win.
Caitlin Levison broke through for the lone N-N goal while Meg Plumb handled 12 shots in the losing cause.
Massena plays host to Madrid-Waddington on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. while N-N is slated to host Edwards-Knox.
Brasher Falls 4, Lisbon 0: At the St. Lawrence Central varsity turf, the host team steadily broke away a scoreless halftime draw to net the win. Shannon Goodrich finished off a play set up by Brandi Thomas five minutes into the second half for the eventual game-winner. Ashley Thayer then scored the next two goals then set up the closing strike by Jane Judware to help put the game out of reach.
Gabby Durant made seven saves working the Brasher Falls crease for the shutout.
BF plays at Heuvelton on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
P-H 6, E-K 1: In Edwards, P-H overcame an early deficit with three goals in the first half and three more in the second half to improve to 6-2.
Kamrie Dandrow opened the scoring for the home team three minutes into the game before P-H came roaring back led by Natalie Remington, who knotted the score off an assist from Emily Sloan then went on to help set up two others. Kodi Perkin struck for a pair of goals. Rebecca Remington contributed two assists. Sloan also netted a goal along with Rikki Paul and Michaela Cole while Nicole White, Jena Converse and Jena Jacot each logged solo helpers.
Cayla McGregor made three saves in the first half and Megan Evans handled another two shots in sharing crease duties for P-H which is now slated to host Potsdam on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
