Dow Electric Caps Unbeaten NCWSSL Regular Season

Dow Electric successfully completed an undefeated regular season while McDuff's and Ton's closed on a winning note in North Country Womens Summer Soccer action on Thursday.

All three squads will now gear up for the league playoffs which get underway next Tuesday with four first round games. Ton's will play host to Norwood on Tuesday while Dow Electric, the top overall seed, and McDuff's gain opening round byes before hosting quarter-final round games next Thursday. The other Tuesday games will pit Canton at Akwesasne, Ogdensburg at Heuvelton and Star Lake at Harrisville. FC Freeze and Edwards-Knox also earned first-round byes.

Dow Electric 9, Akwesasne 1: At Generations Field, Niki Perkins sparked the winning attack with three goals. Ari Czech and Brooke Enslow broke through for two goals apiece while Brooke Waite and Taylor each scored once as Dow Electric finished the regular season at 14-0-2.

Akwesasne slipped to 7-9.

McDuff's 8, Norwood 1: In Norfolk, Anita Bessette led the winning offense with a three-goal outing. Ginette Cornett broke through for a pair of goals. Wendy Todd, Jess Weathers and Meagan Emlaw struck for the other goals. Cornette and Emlaw also combined to backstop the win as McDuff's wound up with a 14-1-1 regular season record.

Katie Smith netted the lone goal and Brynn Tebo handled crease duties for Norwood (1-14-1).

Ton's 3, Canton 1: At SUNY Potsdam, Peg Brusso scored her second game-winning goal of the year while Jill Tardelli connected for the other two in the winning effort. Elisabeth Bennett drew an assist on the insurance goal while Liz Durfee fielded six shots backstopping the win as Ton's improved to 8-7-1 heading into the post-season.

Chantale Wood broke through for the lone Canton (5-10-1) goal and Brittani Bessette had 10 saves.

In the other Thursday night finales, FC Freeze outscored Edwards-Knox 5-1 while Heuvelton gained a 1-0 forfeit win over Star Lake and Harrisville did likewise over Ogdensburg.

FC Freeze 5, E-K 1: Kamrie Dandrow set up Mel Mauer and Rachel Bowdish sparking FC Freeze to a 2-0 lead. After Vanessa Bullock opened the second half with the only E-K goal of the game Mauer, Paige Harvey and Abby VanGelden scored for FC Freeze.

Second half assists were passed out by: Megan Stevenson, Katherine Polido and Kerri Keegan and supported a three-save win by Alex Weston. Katie Stone fielded six shots in the Edwards goal.
