Pavelock Signs Uprising Pledge
POTSDAM - Maria Pavelock, a Democratic candidate for the 47th Senate District, has signed New York Uprising's pledge to make government more equitable, responsible and honest.
"This year voters are counting on candidates to commit to specific reforms in advance," wrote ex-New York City Mayor Edward Koch, who leads the group, in a letter. "I look forward to working with her to see them swiftly implemented."
Ms. Pavelock promised, if elected, to help create a state ethics commission that can sanction officials or candidates; a new financial disclosure form that requires all officials and candidates to disclose all sources of income and an independent, non-partisan redistricting commission. The candidate also promised to help the state make a five-year financial plan to monitor the consequences of spending decisions.
Sen. Joseph A. Griffo, R-Rome, has also signed the pledge. Michael Hennessy, Ms. Pavelock's Democratic opponent, has not.
