Barbara J. Brownell
MASSENA - A Mass of Resurrection for Barbara J. Brownell, 79, of Massena will be held on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at 12 noon at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena, with Rev. Sony Pulickal and Rev. Donald J. Manfred concelebrating. Interment will be Calvary Cemetery in Massena.
Friends and family may be received on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St., Massena.
Barbara passed away peacefully on July 30, 2010 at her home.
Barbara is survived by a daughter-in-law, Marcia and husband Dan Henry of Massena; a grandson and granddaughter, Paul and wife Sumer Brownell of Massena, Emily and husband Michael McCabe of Lake Placid, N.Y.; three great-grandsons, Jaden and Blade Brownell, Jack McCabe; two brothers, Carl and Earl White, both of Massena; two sisters, Marie Greene of Massena, Irene Power of Louisville; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons, David and Lance; brothers, Hubert, Bernard, Robert Laurence and Harold White; and a sister, Frances Dunn.
Born Feb. 11, 1931 in Massena, the daughter of Frank and Mabel (Larue) White, she married Sterling I. Brownell on Sept. 17, 1949 at the Sacred Heart Rectory with Rev. Michael Jurecki presiding. Mr. Brownell predeceased her on Sept. 9, 1993.
Barbara was very active at Sacred Heart Church. She served on the Parish Council for many years, and recently was recognized as a 60-year member of the American Legion Post No. 79 Auxiliary. She served on the Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation, Special Prospects' Committee. She was an avid supporter of the Massena Memorial Hospital.
Barbara was a very dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a great deal of compassion for her family, friends and neighbors.
