Area News Briefs Menacing Contempt Charge Gouverneur Fire
DEPEYESTER - A man accused of injuring his girlfriend's wrist during an argument was charged Friday.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies charged Lyle A. Walker Jr., 42, of 4384 County Route 10, with third-degree menacing and resisting arrest. They did not identify his girlfriend. Deputies allege he threatened her with serious physical injury and bent her wrist, causing swelling.
He was arraigned in Town Court and released. The court issued an order of protection barring Mr. Walker from harassing his girlfriend.
BRASHER - Amanda L. Peets, 27, of 54 McCluskey Ave., Apt. 2, Massena, was charged Friday morning with second-degree criminal contempt. State police allege she violated a no-contact order of protection by phoning a person she previously had dated. Troopers did not identify the person she is accused of calling. Ms. Peets was arraigned in Town Court and released on her own recognizance.
GOUVERNEUR - A Rowley Street home suffered moderate damage in a fire Saturday afternoon. Gouverneur volunteer firefighters were called to the 171 Rowley St. home of Christopher A. Miller shortly before 2 p.m. Volunteers from Richville and Oxbow assisted.
St. Lawrence County fire investigators said a light in the attic that short-circuited caused the blaze. The house suffered moderate fire damage to the attic and water damage, but is insured.
