Team Flint Wins Close Duel In NNYBC Tourney
A short upriver run proved to be long on results for the father-son team of John and Chris Flint at the Northern New York Bassmasters Club Tournament staged out of Ogdensburg on Saturday.
The Potsdam-Canton based Team Flint weighed in a five-limit mixed bag of Smallmouth and Largemouth of 20.53 pounds to edge Chris Backus and Paul Streeter of Cranberry Lake who put a 20.23 pound number on the board as the second entry at the weigh-in.
An entry which included the tournament's Lunker, a 5.32-pound Smallmouth.
"We knew we had some good spots up in the Morristown area of the river, the fish just had to bite early before there was a lot of boat traffic," said Chris Flint who recently placed fifth in a New York State BASS Federation Tournament in Clayton.
Third place went to Brad and Robert Paradis of Ogdensburg who edged the tandem of Steve Sharland of Ogdensburg and Scott Silver of Dexter 16.19-16.03.
Heading into the final tournament of the year, the Backus-Streeter teams stands second at 1178 points to the team of Chuck and Chris Roach of Heuvelton. Rounding out the top five are: O'Hearn-Marcum 1160, Morrill-Morgan 1158 and Palmer-Narrow 1146.
The final tournament will be held on the St. Lawrence River at French Creek on Saturday and the Club Championship Tournament will be held out of Waddington on Sept. 25-26.
