Pierce Outduels Russell At Summer Sunset 5K
Matt Pierce's final appearance in the Summer Sunset 5K Series turned into one of his best runs ever on Aug. 10.
Pierce, who will begin his freshman cross country season at Dartmouth University in the next two weeks, outdueled Professional Triathlete Matt Russell by one second to claim overall Male Medalist honors. Both are former cross country runners at Canton Central. Jimmy Mayers placed third overall.
Russell will represent the United States in the World Duathlon Championships in Scotland at the end of September.
Christina Firl captured female honors from the Youth Division posting an 18:32-19:50 margin of victory over Kristen Betrus. Laura Pierce gave the Youth Division a 1-3 finish with her sister Emily Pierce, a Grove City College student, placing fourth.
