Massena Volleyball Drops Opener, Canton Ends Chateaugay's Streak

GOUVERNEUR - Gouverneur spoiled the 2010 season opener for the Massena Central volleyball team on Tuesday with a 26-24, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16 victory in Northern Athletic Conference action.

For Gouverneur, Jacy Melillo generated 10 points, four aces, nine kills, 25 sets, nine assists and one block while Morgan Bush posted 13 points, two aces, four kills, three sets and two assists.

Canton 3, Chateaugay 2: At Chateaugay, Canton snapped Chateaugay's Section 10 regular season win streak at 55 matches with a 3-2 victory.

The Bears stopped the Bulldogs streak with scores of 25-12, 25-21, 11-25, 12-25, 25-22.

For Canton, Kacie Wentworth scored 20 points on the serve and added seven kills while Emily Archibald posted 10 kills and 15 service points including seven aces.

For Chateaugay, Amanda Woodward scored 21 points with nine aces and posted 11 assists. Mikayla Patnode had 15 assists while Kiersten Zeldenrust (14 points, four aces) and Katelyn Legacy (14 kills) also played solid.
