Emogene K. Russell
HAMMOND - Funeral services for Mrs. Emogene K. Russell, 84, Black Lake Road, County Rt. 6, Hammond, will be held on Friday at noon at the Galilee United Methodist Church, with Pastor Heidi McGinnis and Lay pastor Tom Nichols officiating. The burial will be at the Stone Church Cemetery, town of Oswegatchie, with a luncheon to follow in the Galilee church fellowship room.
There will be no calling hours.
Fox & Murray Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Russell died at her home on Tuesday morning (Aug. 31, 2010). She had been in failing health for the past 2 1/2 years.
Surviving are her husband, William H. Russell; two sons, Ronald of Buford, Ga., and Curtis and wife Lori of Morristown; one daughter, Cynthia Russell, Black Lake; four grandchildren, Zeb Russell, Danielle Warren, Jordon Russell and Kristin Russell; three great-grandchildren, Uriah Warren, Emma Claire Russell and McGavin Russell; one brother, Adelbert Kelley, Tampa, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Predeceasing her were one son, David Allen Russell, who died shortly after birth; one brother, Leland Kelley; and one sister, Elma Moss.
She was born on May 1, 1926 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Adelbert and Ruby Driver Kelley. She attended Morristown and Ogdensburg schools (OFA) and married William H. Russell on March 31, 1946 at the Stone Presbyterian Church, with Rev. John Myers officiating.
After their marriage, the couple moved to the Scotch Bush Road in the town of Morristown, where they lived for a short time. They then moved to Galilee to live for several years while both Mr. and Mrs. Russell worked at the former Standard Shade Roller Co., Ogdensburg.
In 1956, they purchased their present farm and home on the Black Lake Road where they have since resided. She was active in church and community affairs and was a member of the Galilee United Methodist Church and former member of the Presbyterian Stone Church.
A 4-H leader for the Black Lake Bullheads, a baker of bread and cinnamon rolls, a seamstress, and quilt maker all lead to a very active and productive life. She always enjoyed doing for others.
