Potsdam Spikers Fall to Chateaugay
POTSDAM - Chateaugay Central didn't allow Potsdam Central to follow through on a promising start in the lone NAC varsity girls volleyball match on Wednesday.
The host Lady Sandstoners stood tied at 22-22 in the first set before surrendering the final three points en route to dropping a 25-22, 25-12, 25-15 decision to the Lady Bulldogs.
"We had a good first set but we weren't able to carry through with it," said coach Julia Pahler after making her varsity debut in the season opener for her squad.
Kara Murray led the way from the service line for the Lady Sandstoners with seven points, including one ace. Kristy Huczel served up five points (1 ace) and worked the net for five kills. Delaney Lawrence (2 aces, 2 kills, 31 sets, 1 block) and Kelsey Travis finished with four service points each. Bridget Parks tallied three more while Kiana McDonough produced a point and four kills.
Chateaugay, which opened its season on Tuesday by suffering its first NAC regular season loss in 55 matches, was led by Desiree Stumpf with 23 points, seven aces and five kills. Amanda Woodward chipped in with 13 points, four aces and nine assists, while fellow setter Mikayla Patnode dished out 18 assists. Katelyn Legacy and Caroline Stumpf contributed 16 and seven kills, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Sandstoners will look to get on track next Wednesday when they play their first road game at Franklin Academy at 6 p.m.
