RUSSELL - The Salmon River Central varsity girls volleyball team opened the 2010 NAC season with an impressive sweep over host Edwards-Knox on Thursday.

Leslee Loran put on a dominate display from the service line with 24 points, including six aces, and notched nine kills patrolling the net as the Lady Shamrocks won by scores of 25-5, 25-14, 25-10. Nicole Smoke also made lead contributions with 11 service points (3 aces) and 13 assists. Kasennakohe David tallied eight points, three aces and four kills. Kiesha Cook finished with seven points, two aces and four kills while Alicia Francis generated five kills and seven assists.

The Lady Shamrocks return to action next Wednesday at home against OFA starting at 6 p.m.

In the other NAC matches on Thursday, OFA turned back Massena in three straight while Franklin Academy stopped Canton 3-1.

OFA 3, Massena 0: In Ogdensburg, the host Lady Blue Devils downed the Lady Raiders 25-17, 25-23, 25-20 to win their season debut.

Demi White anchored the Lady Raider scoring all of her 11 points entirely off aces. Kaitlyn Dominie tallied two kills and Sidney Thompson and Toni David combined for five and four digs.

Leading the way for OFA were; Charrette Spooner with 18 assists and 4 digs, Sara Weir with 10 kills, 20 points, 11 aces, and Emily McLellan with 10 points, 5 aces, 4 kills.

Now 0-2, the Lady Raiders will look to get on track next Wednesday when the make their home debut against Madrid-Waddington starting at 6 p.m.

FA 3, Canton 1: At Jerry Hourihan Gym, the visiting Lady Huskies won the opening set 25-22 then dropped the second 25-18 before storming back to take the next two 25-6, 25-9.

Elizabeth McGregor served up 10 points, including three aces to anchor the Canton cause. Emily Archibald worked the net for nine kills to go along with five service points (2 aces). Kacie Wentworth tallied two kills, three assists and two aces as the Lady Bears slipped to 1-1.
