Farmer's Equipment Vandalized By Pot Growers: Deputies
A town of Oswegatchie farmer chopping down corn stalks recently destroyed several marijuana plants that were growing in his field.
St. Lawrence County sheriff's detectives believe the marijuana growers retaliated Tuesday morning for their marijuana plants being destroyed by vandalizing his farm equipment, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
The vandals reportedly slashed numerous tires, cut electrical wires on several tractors and smashed out windows on several pieces of farm equipment on the Keith Pierce farm off McGowan Road, detectives said. A truck, a corn chopper and several trailers were targeted by the vandals.
Detectives said an earlier than normal corn harvest this year could have caught some marijuana growers off guard and their crop being grown among the corn stalks was destroyed.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information can call sheriff's detectives at 379-2222.
