POTSDAM - The SUNY Potsdam mens golf team finished first Tuesday afternoon at the three-team Bears Fall Invitational at the par-72 Potsdam Country Club.

The Bears, who shot a 306 as a team, were led by juniors Shane Laurie (Canton) and Benton Sullivan (Massena), who finished 1-2 individually in the tournament.

Clarkson finished second with a score of 329, while Oswego took third with a total of 331 strokes.

In taking home medalist honors, Laurie fired a 70, five strokes better than Sullivan, who was also the runner-up at the same tournament a year ago.

Junior Lee Shippee (Corinth) shot a 79, while sophomore Shawn Thomas (Alexandria Bay) carded an 82. Senior Ken Rhodes (Cochecton) rounded out Bears scoring with an 84.

Rob Wood paced Clarkson with a 77 followed by Joel Bailey (78), Brandan LaFleur (84), Mike Weigand (90) and Taylor Dwyer (92).

Competing for Oswego were Rick Algie (79), Brian Walker (82), Joe Barron (83), Pat Davidow (87) and Gouverneur's Nick Sterling (87).
