POTSDAM - A memorial service for Lucy G. Earle, 94, of 69 Lawrence Ave., Potsdam, formerly of 135 Highway 72, Potsdam, will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. the Garner Funeral Home, with Monsignor John R. Murphy celebrant. Burial will follow the service at the Hermon Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Lucy is survived by two daughters, Patricia Maston of Potsdam and Linda Sherman of Olympia, Wash.; granddaughter Misty Russell of Potsdam; grandsons Todd Sherman and Noah Sherman of Olympia, Wash.; great grandchildren Chloe Palenthorpe of Texas and Ellie and Jack Sherman of Olympia, Wash.; step children Abigale Coppa and Susan Hedges; four step grandsons; three step granddaughters; a special niece, Gloria Hunter of Theresa; and brothers Phillip Carpenter of Canton and Donald Carpenter of Dekalb.

She is predeceased by a son in law, Joseph H. Maston; brothers Claude, Carl, Hubert, Everett and Charles Carpenter; and by her sisters, Helen Leblanc, Mavis Vereschuk and Laura Galster.

Lucy G. Earle was born on March 3, 1916 in Hermon to Fred Carpenter and Maude Young. She was a graduate of Hermon High School. She then attended Nursing School at the Belleview Hospital, where she became a registered nurse.

She worked for a few years in the city until moving north. In 1945, she and her husband, Patrick, opened Carey's Jewelry store and were the owner and operators until 1979 when she sold the store.

She remained working there when the store was Eugene Earle Jewelry. During this time she was a Girl Scout leader for 35 years.

She was married to Patrick Carey on June 21, 1942 in New York City. The marriage ended in divorce. Mr. Carey died March 2, 1998.

She was married to Eugene A. Earle on Oct. 29, 1976. He died April 20, 1998.

Contributions in her memory can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
