M-W Boys Blank Chateaugay

MADRID- Madrid-Waddiington earned its first win of the Northern Athletic Conference East League season on Thursday posting a 3-0 shutout over Chateaugay at Dan Rose Field.

"We played very well as a team. Defensively, Ken Johnson, Pat Sharlow, Adam Villnave, and Justin Pierce all played solid games. It was a nice, quality win," said M-W coach Gary Tischler.

Kody Sharlow opened scoring in the second half from Zach Marcellus in the 46th minute.

Quinn Shoen blasted home a shot from 18 yards out in the 62nd minute from Tommy Mallette. Kody Sharlow scored again on a nice one-two combination with Marcellus logging an assist in the 72nd.

Alex Brock handled 11 shots backstopping the shutout. Erik Fleury stopped 15 shots for Chateaugay.

The Yellowjackets will host the Dan Rose Memorial Tournament on Thursday.

In other NAC boys soccer action on Thursday, OFA gained a 2-1 non-league win over Indian River and Lisbon blanked West Division rival Heuvelton 2-0.

OFA 2, Indian River 1: Grant Prudhomme set up the opening goal by John Paul Burns in the third minute the connected for the game-winner with five minutes left to spark the Blue Devils (4-0).

Tyler Carrow turned aside seven shot backstopping the win.

GIRLS SOCCER

Two NAC girls soccer encounters on Thursday saw Chateagay double Madrid-Waddington 4-2 in the East Division contest and Canton gain a 2-1 interdivisional decision over Harrisville 2-1.

Chateaugay 4, M-W 2: The Lady Bulldogs built a 3-0 halftime lead and went ahead 4-0 before turning back the Lady Yellowjackets. Raquel Fowler tallied two goals and an assist to lead the way offensively for Chateaugay. Courtney Boyea and Alexis Beach struck for the other goals while Nikki Cooke-Paige drew a pair of assists.

Taylor Lenney and Shelby MacIntosh scored in the losing cause. Courtney Ashley logged an assist.

Maykayla Fleury and Shelby Coleman had a combined nine saves working the Chateaugay crease while Lauren Sharpe stopped six shots for M-W.

Canton 2, Harrisville 1: Katie French scored from Hunter Fowler in the 33rd minute for Harrisville but the Bears scored two second half goals to gain the win. Sam Brown connected from Alicia Jones and Murphy Newman scored from Tressa Goolden in the 76th minute for the gamewinner.

Kara Locy stopped seven shots for Canton. Samantha Rounds (8 saves) and Mary LaPlatney (4 saves) goaltended for Harrisville.
