POTSDAM - Republican congressional candidate Matthew A. Doheny is slated to teach a course on venture capital and private equity at Clarkson University in the fall.
It's an advanced elective class for finance majors. Mr. Doheny has spent much of the past decade as a portfolio manager, first at Deustche Bank Securities.
Earlier this year, he founded North Country Capital LLC, a firm that invests in startups and companies looking to expand. In July, Mr. Doheny was appointed to the board of YRC Worldwide, a holding company for trucking outfits.
Mr. Doheny taught a class at Jefferson Community College in the spring semester. His co-instructor is John Gaus, a fellow businessman.
Mr. Doheny will seek the Republican nomination to represent the north country in Congress. The election will take place in 2012, after the boundaries of Congress are redrawn, so it's uncertain whom he will face.
Rep. William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, represents the north country now, besting Mr. Doheny in 2010.
