MASSENA - Number 13, no problem.

The 13th straight win for the Massena Central boys hockey team proved to be the Raiders' biggest win of the season.

Massena (13-2) knocked off number-two state-ranked Suffern by 3-2 on Saturday in the championship game of the Massena Invitational Tournament.

The winning goal came with 3:18 left in regulation time when Game-MVP Zach Robert broke out of the defensive zone, worked around a Suffern defender, shot on goal, picked up his own rebound and, with a defender draped around him, flipped the puck past goalie Tyler Stark.

"That was a great goal by Zach and this is a great win for us," said Massena coach Mike Trimboli.

Tyler Lashomb was named MVP of the tournament after two all-around strong performances in the tourney which included an assist on a Ryan Chauvin goal on Saturday which made it 2-0 for 6th-ranked Massena early in the second period. The Raiders had scored the lone goal of the first period as Jake Holcomb connected from Brantley Adams and Jayden Wood.

But the Mounties (10-2), down 2-0 heading into the third period, fought back to tie the score on a pair of goals by Suffern Game-MVP Kevin Haggerty, a prelude to Robert's gamewinner.

"Tyler Lashomb was dynamic for us in all three zones and created a lot of opportunities in both games of the tournament," noted Trimboli.

Connor Paquin made 23 saves in goal for Massena while Tyler Stark made 26 stops for the Mounties.
