Akwesasne Overwhelms Delaware
AKWESASNE - The Akwesasne Warriors overcame an early deficit in overwhelming fashion last Saturday at home over Federal Hockey League rival Delaware.
Pierre Dagenais generated five goals and four assists as the Warriors steadily pulled away from a 2-2 tie to claim a 17-8 win at Anowaraka:wa Arena. Nicolas Corbeil added three goals and three assists. Samuel Sanford-Roy (2-3) and Jonathon St. Louis (1-4) both had five-point nights. Also contributing to the offensive onslaught were Dwayne Vacheco (2-2), Miguel Delisle (1-3), Sylvain Deschatelets (1-3), Kris McCarthy (1-2), Jeremy Van Hoof (0-3), Carter Trevisani (1-1), Patrick Bilodeau (0-2), Mike Stacey (0-2) and Ahmed Mahfouz (0-1).
Tim Thomas had three goals and two assists in the losing cause while Simon Lauzon finished with two goals and three helpers as Delaware fell to 2-11. Will McIntyre had 38 saves.
David Plouffe stopped 27 shot through the first two periods before giving way to Jacob Lazore who handled another 10 over the final 20 minutes of regulation.
Delaware took the lead just 3:55 into the game before the Warriors stormed back to take a 3-2 lead. Akwesasne then outscored the visiting squad 7-3 in each of the next two periods.
The Warriors improved to 14-13 with the win and will get set to host a home-and-home series against North Country FHL rival 1000 Islands starting Friday at the Anowaraka:wa Arena startinga t 7:35 p.m. The teams then head to Alexandria Bay on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. encounter at the Bonnie Castle Arena.
