Vernon J. Simonds

Funeral services for 84-year old Mr. Vernon James Simonds will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with Rev. Charles Gardner, Pastor of the Hopkinton Congregational Church officiating. Calling hours are on Thursday, February 2, from noon to 2:00 PM at Seymour Funeral Home. A spring burial will be in the Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Cemetery. Mr. Simonds died at his home on January 30, 2012.

Survivors include four daughters, Audrey Lindsey of Hopkinton, Annette Simonds of Chazy, NY, Mrs. Thomas (Sharon) Farns of Hopkinton, and Verona Whipple of Bethel, CT. Mr. Simonds has a sister, Ruth Richardson of Hopkinton, along with 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also surviving. His wife Grace and two sisters Jessie Jenne and Estella Jones predeceased him.

Vernon was born in Hopkinton, NY on February 27, 1927 the son of Roy and Mildred (Newtown) Simonds. He married Grace L. Witherell on October 2, 1944 in Hopkinton, NY. She died March 5, 2001.

Vernon was employed for many years at the St. Lawrence County Highway Dept. in Canton. He was an avid gardener.
