POTSDAM — Clarkson University has been awarded a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Sen. Charles E. Schumer announced Tuesday.

The funding will be used to monitor formerly untraceable contaminants in the water supply by studying the effects on fish in each of the five Great Lakes. The research will follow long-documented substances and contaminants as well as unlock information regarding undiscovered low-level contaminants, the senator said in a press release.

Researchers hope the study will provide better information for decision-makers on the Great Lakes ecosystem’s health.
