OGDENSBURG - Sometimes you just want to sit down with family or friends, enjoy some great food in a fun atmosphere and have a pleasant evening out. Every night, Buster's Sports Bar in Ogdensburg is packed with people doing just that.
It's not just the cool décor, with unique sports memorabilia hanging on every wall, or the excellent service from a team of experienced waiters and waitresses that keeps people coming back to Buster's - it's the food.
Quality casual dining can be hard to come by, with one's restaurant choices often restricted to either fast-food or high-falutin fare, but residents of and visitors to Ogdensburg have another choice in Buster's.
"We've got a pretty big menu," says owner Terry Vernsey. "We've got a little bit of everything.'
Apart from the regular menu, including a full kid's menu, the restaurant offers nightly specials. On Mondays, the special is prime rib sandwich; on Tuesdays it's Mexican Night; Wednesday is pasta night, and on Thursdays, Buster's offers a turkey dinner. Friday nights are fish fry nights, Saturdays offer prime rib, and on Saturdays the special is pork dinner.
Other favorites include boneless wings, with a variety of sauces and an extensive salad bar, with more than 40 different items. More than that, Buster's is becoming known for its desserts, particularly Rose's famous homemade pies.
Buster's is also the sole purveyor of an Ogdensburg tradition - the Wimpy burger. With its secret sauce, it has been a North Country staple for decades.
Buster's has also become known for its fresh St. Lawrence perch and for its shrimp and lobster platters.
Word of Buster's varied and quality menu even spread to the food critic from the Watertown Daily Times. Last March, the critic sat down for dinner at Buster's and later awarded the restaurant a near perfect score - 3.5 out of 4 for the quality of its food.
A 20-foot salad bar now offers more than 40 different fresh vegetables and fruit, along with dinner rolls and homemade soup. The new salad bar at Buster's is actually the largest in the county and offers selection to match, with everything prepared on site every day.
Buster's can now also lay claim to the coldest beer in town, as the renovations included the installation of an ice bath, which keeps the suds fresh and cold. Eleven different types of draft beer are on tap, with the price for a 16 oz. glass starting at $2.
There are also several new flat-screen televisions on the restaurant walls and the interior décor has been updated.
Rest assured, though, the remarkable array of sports memorabilia for which Buster's is well-known remains on prominent display, including a selection of keepsakes from the NBA career of the North Country's own Rick Carlisle.
So, whether it's a walk down some sporting memory lane, a drink at the bar, a succulent burger or a feed of perch, there are many reasons to visit Buster's Sports Bar, where the cheerful, professional staff will be there to welcome you and provide you a fun and delicious restaurant experience.
Buster's Sports Bar is located at 1130 Patterson St., Ogdensburg, right next to the McDonald's. Check busters-sportsbar.com for directions. Register on site and print valuable coupons.
