CANTON - St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies charged Russell F. Dendler, 23, a St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility inmate from the Winthrop area with fifth-degree conpiracy and a felony count of first-degree attempted promotion of prison contraband.

He reportedly asked his mother, Angela M. Swinyer, 41, of Chase Mills to bring him drugs while she was visiting him at the county jail.

Deputies said the arrest was the latest charge filed in connection with an investigation into drugs being smuggled into the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.

Dendler was arraigned in Canton Village Court and sent back to the county jail with bail set at $300 cash or $600 bond on the new charges.
