MASSENA Inspectors cleared the way for the Massena Quality Inn to reopen Thursday afternoon.
We are now open. We opened officially about an hour ago, General Manager Lee G. Stevens said Thursday afternoon.
Dars Place, a restaurant inside the hotel, remained closed Thursday but is scheduled to reopen at 11 a.m. today for lunch, Mr. Stevens said.
The hotel and Dars Place, 10 W. Orvis St., had been closed for the majority of this week after a fire in the hotels electrical room early Monday. Firefighters responded to a report of smoke originating in the hotels electrical room after employees had noticed flickering lights and the smell of smoke shortly after 6 a.m. and called Mr. Stevens and 911.
The 55 guests in the hotel at the time were evacuated to Emmanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, 39 W. Orvis St., and Choice Hotels assisted those who had reservations at the Quality Inn in finding other accommodations.
St. Lawrence County fire officials labeled the incident as electrical and said there was only minor damage in the electrical room.
Now hotel officials hope those who had booked reservations will call them back at 769-2441 to reserve their rooms.
