FORT COVINGTON A Canadian man was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Syracuse, to a year in federal prison for smuggling illegal aliens into the United States.
Donald M. Gallaher, 55, Black Diamond, Alberta, had pleaded guilty Jan. 5 to alien smuggling, admitting that he entered the country through the port of entry here and met two men who had earlier entered the country illegally, Ross B. James, 30, British Columbia, and John Duder, also a Canadian citizen. Mr. James was carrying two loaded firearms registered to Mr. Gallaher.
Mr. James pleaded guilty Sept. 8 to illegal importation of a firearm and was sentenced Feb. 22 to a year in prison. Mr. Duder pleaded guilty earlier to a misdemeanor count of entering the country without an inspection and was sentenced Aug. 2 to an unspecified amount of time served in federal custody.
