Massena Athletic Director Tim Hayes honored by Section 10


SARATOGA SPRINGS - Massena Central Athletic Director Tim Hayes was recently honored with the 2012 Section 10 Athletic Administrator Award.

He was presented the award on March 15th at the 24th Annual New York State Administrators Conference . On hand for the presentation were Potsdam Central Athletic Director Mark Wilson and Awards Chairperson Scott Sugar of Oswego.

A Massena Central graduate, Hayes went on to attend SUNY Cortland where he finished with a Bachelors’ Degree in Physical Education. He continued his education and earned a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology and Media Management from SUNY Potsdam.

Hayescontinued his coursework to become certified as a Special Education teacher. In 1984, Tim was hired by the St. Lawrence County ARC as a Recreation Therapist in Norwood. In 1986, the St. Lawrence –Lewis BOCES hired him as a Special Education teacher for the Canton and Madrid Waddington Central School District’s.

In 1989, he accepted a position in the St. Lawrence Central School District a Special Education Teacher. While working at St. Lawrence Central, he coached varsity football and lacrosse. He also took on the role of Athletic Administrator. In 2000, Tim transferred to the Massena Central School District where he was employed as a Special Education teacher. He also coached football, hockey and golf for Massena. In 2008, Hayes accepted the position of Director of Athletics for the Massena Central School District.

Hayes also serves on the Section 10 Life of an Athlete Committee and has previously held the position of Section 10 Football Chairperson and Section 10 Golf Chairperson.

As the Director of Athletics for Massena Central School District, Hayes has volunteered to host numerous local and regional championships over the past five years. He is very dedicated to the students of Massena and Section 10. He and his wife, Rachelle, have two children, Tyler (Utica College) and Nicole (Boston College). In his free time, Hayes enjoys reading, racquet ball, golf and traveling to watch his son compete in the Utica College cross country and track meets.
