MARIJUANA POSSESSION - MASSENA - A 25-year-old Massena woman is being held at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $3,000 bail after a stop by the U.S. Border Patrol resulted in the seizure of 25 pounds of marijuana located in the trunk of the 1999 Ford Taurus she was operating.
The case was turned over to Massena-based state police, who charged Joni J. Price of 2274 state Route 420, Massena, with a felony count of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana following a stop early Wedneday morning on state Route 310 in the town of Canton.
Border patrol agents indicated they located 20 vacuum sealed bags filled with marijuana in the trunk of Prices vehicle, which they had followed after they observed it appearing to travel in tandem with a 2010 Chrysler registered to an owner from Hogansburg. Agents said they first encountered Prices vehicle at 1:35 a.m. April 11 in the town of Madrid headed westbbound on state Route 310.
Agents said the marijuana weighed 25.4 pounds and had an estimated street value of $101,600.
Price was arraigned by Massena Town Justice James M. Crandall and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $3,000 cash or $6,000 bond. The local justice also directed Price to stay off the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation and said she could only leave St. Lawrence County to attend classes at North Country Community College.
