MASSENA - A 24-year-old Ogdensburg man has been sentenced to 30 days in the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility after admitting he shoplifted $134.42 worth of merchandise from Walmart in May.
Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson also ordered Blane A. Fisher of 461 Belmont Courts, Ogdensburg, formerly of 1156 Pray Road, Lisbon, to pay a $205 surcharge, which was reduced to a civil judgment. Village police had charged Fisher and Melissa Welch, 24, of Ogdensburg, formerly of 2039 County Highway 33, Cooperstown, with petit larceny on May 27.
A store loss prevention associate told police she had observed the couple place two swimsuit tops, a black dress and four bras in Welchs purse and then walk past the last point of sale in the store without paying for the items.
Fisher has had been charged with petit larceny several times over the past two years in various locations around the county. The jail sentence will run consecutive to a term Fisher is currently serving in the county jail for a conviction from the Ogdensburg City Court.
Fisher was sentenced to 60 days in county jail after pleading guilty to attempted petit larceny. The plea satisfies a Jan. 19 petit larceny charge from Walmart, 3000 Ford St. Extension, and an Oct. 10 petit larceny charge from Price Chopper, Gateway Plaza, Ford Street Extension.
