POTSDAM - Potsdam Central School has six candidates fighting for three positions.
Among those six, incumbent J. Patrick Turbett was the lone current member to seek re-election. Board President James A. Bunstone and Patrick Regan will both allow their terms to expire.
Mr. Turbett will be joined on the ballot by three former board of education members, Mary Ashley Carroll, Ann Carvil and Sandra Morris, as well as James Hubbard and Danielle Gray.
When asked why he thought there was such an interest in obtaining a spot on the board, Superintendent Patrick H. Brady replied, “I'm not sure.”
He did point out though that Potsdam has a history of having contested school board races.
“Potsdam is a well educated community that strongly supports education and on many occasions there has been a variety of people running for the school board, particularly given the tough fiscal times and difficult decisions to be made,” Mr. Brady said. “At the community forums we heard many opinions from the community about the direction the district should go in terms of personnel, programming and balancing the budget.”
