DWI - MASSENA - A Massena man faces a driving while intoxicated charge after he called police over to his vehicle after they had followed his car from the Sunoco station to a parking lot off Andrews Street near the Massena fire station.

Village police charged Vernon R. Bakkum, 61, of 30 Elm St., Massena, with driving while intoxicated. He reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.16 percent, double the 0.08 percent threshhold for a DWI count.

Police said they had responded to the Sunoco station shortly before 7:50 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a possible intoxicated driver and a description of the vehicle he was operating.
