Massena girls improve to 4-0 atop NAC lacrosse standings with win over OFA

MASSENA - The Massena Central girls lacrosse team remained unbeaten atop the NAC standings after pulling away to a 14-4 win at home over OFA on Wednesday.

Shaydi Oakes (1 assist) and Erin Francis generated four goals apiece as the Lady Raiders raced out to a 9-2 lead by halftime and never looked back in raising their NAC record to 4-0. Dominique Valancius struck for another three goals while Megan Poupore (1 assist) and Stefanie Premo each netted singletons. Carlie Leary contributed two assists. Mia Jermano and Jaclyn Spinner each finished with solo helpers.

“We played as well today as we have all season,” noted coach Jeffrey Slack.

Molly Morrow paced OFA (1-4, 1-2) with a pair of goals. Kaitlin Sheppard and Mackenzie Comeau tallied the other goals while Nikki Holmes fashioned a solo assist.

Alisha Jacobs had nine saves before giving way to Felicity Love, who recorded one more in the combined effort between the pipes for the Lady Raiders. Erica Chase handled 10 shots backstopping the OFA cause.

The Lady Riaders, now 4-1 overall, are slated to host Heuvelton on Friday at 7 p.m.

The lone other NAC game slated for Wednesday saw Saranac Lake turn back Heuvelton 10-9 in overtime while Canton traveled to Lake Placid for a non-league matchup with Northwood Prep.

Saranac Lake 10, Heuvelton 9 (OT): Kaileigh Woodruff sparked the winning attack with five goals as the Red Storm overcame a 6-4 halftime deficit. Kylie Sapone chipped in a pair of goals while Sheila Decker (8 saves) and Katey Snyder (9 saves) split crease duties.

Emilie Ross netted four goals in the losing effort. Jackie Sovie struck for another three while Aliza Armstrong and Colleen Hammond added singletons. Megan Hamilton had eight saves.
