BLACK RIVER — A town of Rutland man who was returned Thursday to Connecticut on a fugitive warrant alleging that he never showed up for court there had the original eight-year-old charges against him dropped Friday, according to a published report.

Timothy A. Collins, 54, of 31771 Route 3, had been held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building since April 19 stemming from a warrant claiming that he had skipped out on a May 2005 appearance in Bristol (Conn.) Superior Court to answer gun-possession and family-violence charges, according to the Waterbury (Conn.) Republican-American.

According to the paper, he had been involved in a domestic dispute in January 2004 with a live-in girlfriend. No details about the gun-possession charge were available, the paper reported.

According to the Republican-American, two detectives made a 534-mile round trip Thursday to Watertown to return Mr. Collins to Connecticut. He appeared in court Friday, at which time all charges were dropped, the paper reported.
