MASSENA - The Massena Central varsity girls lacrosse team relayed a 9-2 halftime lead into a 20-9 NAC win over Heuvelton under the lights at Mike Nicholas Field on Friday.
Erin Francis generated six goals and six assists to spark the winning attack as the Lady Raiders improved to 5-0 atop the league standings. Alisha Jacobs tallied four goals and three assists while Shaydi Oakes collected three goals and one helper. Stefanie Premo (2 assists) and Shannon Casey chipped in two goals apiece. Megan Poupore, Megan Hans and Alanna Pyke struck for the other Massena goals while Bethany Rogers recorded a solo assist.
Aliza Armstrong (1 assist) and Emilie Ross anchored the Heuvelton (1-6, 1-4) scoring three goals each. Ashlyn Piercey, Jackie Sovie and Shastin Crobar broke through for solo markers.
Felicity Love had 10 saves working the Lady Raider crease for the win. Megan Hamilton stopped 10 shots in the losing cause.
Massena, now 5-1 overall, is slated to play a non-league game this afternoon against Manlius-Pebble Hill at the Watertown High School turf field starting at 3 p.m.
In the other NAC games played on Friday, Canton dropped Salmon River and OFA outscored Saranac Lake. A non-league game pitting Potsdam at Northwood Prep was cancelled.
Canton 20, Salmon River 1: At Canton Central, the host Lady Golden Bears ran out to a 13-0 halftime lead in downing the Lady Shamrocks.
Katelyn Bumbard led the winning attack with five goals. Alicia Jones struck for three while Rachel Huntley (1 assist), Maddison VanBibber, Emily Pinckney and Cortney Marsh each netted two. Kathleen Lapinksi (2 assists), Tess Knight (1 assist), Erica Whinnery and Molly McMaster connected for the other goals while Megan Howard turned aside seven shots backstopping the win as Canton improved to 3-2 overall.
Kiera Thompson highlighted the Salmon River effort, breaking through for the first goal of the second half. Kiana Thompson has seven saves working the crease.
The Lady Shamrocks (0-3) return to action on Monday with a non-league game at home against Northwood Prep starting at 5 p.m.
OFA 18, Saranac Lake 7: In Lake Placid, Kaitlin Sheppard scored from Nikki Holmes just four seconds into the game to spark a decisive six-goal run over the first five minutes for the Lady Blue Devils who went on to build a commanding 12-3 halftime lead.
Sheppard finished with five goals and three assists to anchor the winning attack. Molly Morrow generated four goals and five assists and Holmes wound up with three goals to go along with her solo helper.
For the Red Storm, Kaileigh Woodruff tallied three goals and two assists.
Erica Chase made six saves backstopping the win as OFA improved to 2-2 in the NAC and 2-4 overall. Katey Snyder (9 saves) and Sheila Decker (2 saves) combined to work the Saranac Lake crease.
In the lone varsity boys lacrosse game involving an NAC squad on Friday, OFA gained an 11-4 non-league win over Blessed Virgin Mary of Syracuse.
Trey Lawrence (2 assists) and Jake Garrison (1 assist) led the Blue Devil offense with three goals apiece. Cody McCormick (1 assist) and David Prudhomme added two goals each and Joe Giglio netted a singleton.
Mark Masset had three goals in the losing cause as the Saints fell behind 7-1 by halftime and never recovered. Sal Mariane connected for the other goal.
Spencer Lawrence had 15 saves goaltending the win as OFA improved to 2-6 overall.
The only NAC baseball and softball matchups to survive the frigid spring conditions on Friday saw Heuvelton gain a West Division sweep over Harrisville. with the baseball team claiming an 8-0 decision and the softball team posting a 14-10 win.
