Raiders Spilt Thrillers In Tournament

WATERTOWN - The Massena Central School Baseball team split at the Cyclone Booster Club Tournament on Saturday. Massena won a 5-4 decision over Watertown but dropped a 6-5 11 inning instant classic to Carthage.

Against Watertown, Jake Kormanyos fanned nine batters and walked one in the win as Cullen Baines had two hits and Josh Miller drove in two runs to back him up.

“Jake really needed the work, and I thought he pitched very well,’’ Massena coach Greg Paquin said. “He’s kind of played second fiddle to Matt Jenack the last few years, but we expect him to be our workhorse this season.’’

Kyle Westlake went 3-for-3 for WHS in the first game, while Josh Belch contributed an RBI double.

Carthage 6, Massena 5 (11 innings): Ryan Paige delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Comets the extra-inning win at Jefferson Community College.

Austin Halbleib and Tony Bobkoskie each had two hits for Carthage (4-5), and Bobkoskie pitched the final five innings to earn the victory.

Troy Myers finished with two hits for Massena (2-1).
