Bears Win First Annual Willette Tournament


CANTON - Canton sealed the championship of the Wayne Willette Girls Softball Tournament with a six run fifth inning in a 14-7 victory over Harrisville on Saturday .

Lauren Smith delieved a key two run double in the fifth inning for Canton. Kaeli Mace recorded a 3-4 effort at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored while Beth Pearson finished 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored,. Sam Elliott (2-5 , 2 runs scored), Emma Rexford (1-4 3 runs scored), Kara Locey (1-5, 2 runs scored), Katie Murray (1-4) all contributed as Pearson fanned three batters and allowed eight hits and one walk in four innings for the win. Emma Rexford didn’t allow a hit and struck out five.

Hanna Weaver stroke three singles for Harrisville and took the loss. Hunter Fowler stroked a double and drove in two runs. Georgi Baker, Jenna Soper, Emery Matott, and Molly McIntosh each singled.

In the consolation game,Salmon River scored the first five runs of the game in a 7-2 win over Lisbon.

Salmon River 7, Lisbon 2: Karyssa Terrance smacked a RBI triple in the fourth for the Shamrocks who used a four hitter from Emily Trombley in the win.

Anna Kelly lined a double and a single for the winners. Kaitlyn Lauzon chipped in two singles while Abby Kelly doubled and Zoey Thompson singled.

Katie Sovie connected for two singles and a RBI for Lisbon. Alyshia Murray lined a double and scored while Emily Dishaw singled. Sovie also produced a picture perfect catch in the outfield.

Harrisville 15, Lisbon 9: In a NAC West game, Harrisville scored seven runs in the top of the eighth to break a 8-8 tie. Hannan Weaver and Samantha Rounds led off the inning with back to back doubles followed by a single from Emery Matott and Sierra Hewitt.

Hewitt went 3-4 with two runs scored to lead Harrisville while Rounds (three runs scored) and Weaver (two runs scored) each finished 2-4 with a double. Matott added two singles. Baker, Soper, Hunter Fowler, and Brook Canning all singled as Weaver pitched the win.

Alyshia Murray connected for a pair of doubles and three RBI and two runs scored for Lisbon,. Katie Sovie added three singles and two RBI while Gabby Walker and Natalie Pitts each contributed two singles. Emily Dishaw, Sam Gladle and Alison Mitchell each singled.

Canton 7. Salmon River 3: Kaeli Mace generated a two run double in the four run sixth inning for the Bears in a NAC North win over Salmon River. Emma Rexford pitched the win in the relief of Beth Pearson. Pearson allowed just two hits, two runs and one walk in two innings. Rexford struck out four, allowed one run on just one hit.

Canton received two singles and two runs scored from Sara Elliott, a single and two runs scored from Katie Christy and a single and two RBI from Kara Locey.

Shayna Travers supplied two singles for Salmon River. Kaitlyn Lauzon added a single. Abby Kelly took the loss pitching a complete game.
