BRASHER FALLS - The battey of Lindsey Thayer and Haleigh Agans proved to be a dominant combinatiin in the championship game as St. Lawrence Central downed Massena 14-1 to repeat as champions of the SLC Tournament on Saturday.

The 5-0 Larries downed Madrid-Waddington 9-4 in the first round and Massena edged Heuvelton 3-1 in eight innings. The Bulldogs bounced back to best M-W in the consolation game.

Thayer struck out 16 in a three-hitter and went 3-for-5 with three RBIs while Agans stroked five straight hits to lead the Larries to a repeat title. Other key hitting efforts came from Noelle Rufa (2-3, 3 RBIs), Kersten Erwin (single, doube, 2 RBIs) and Caitlin Grow who stroked a key two-run single in the first inning.

Kharlene Garrow singled twice and drove in pitcher Marissa Manley with Massena’s lone run.

Heuvelton 17, Madrid-Waddington 5: A six run barrage in the second inning lifted the Bulldogs in the consolation game. Hannah Thornhill crushed a fence clearing homerun, lined a double and scored three runs and Rachel Thornhill (3-5 two doubles, run scored), Logan Tallman (3-6, two doubles, three run scored), Abbey Basford (2-4 two runs scored), Macy Richardson (2-2) and Paige McCormick (2-3) all produced mutiple hits. Alexis Sawyer, Jen Cougler, Alicia LaRose, and Ali Scallone each singled.

Alexis Weidner pitched the win in relief allowing two walks and one hit striking out three in five shutout innings. Paige McCormick started allowing no earned runs on two hits, two walks. Losing pitcher Desiree Pryce and Taylor Marcellus each singled in the second inning while Emily Uppstrom added a single in the sixth.

“I though Paige (McCormick) did a nice job pitching but we didn’t defend well. Alexis (Weidner) came in and did well. Offensively, Macy Richardson produced two good hits,” said Heuvelton Coach Mark Henry.

Massena 3, Heuvelton 1: Mackenzie Young belted a two-run walkoff homerun with no outs in bottom of the eighth inning for Massena. Kharlene Garrow reached on a walk to lead off the inning. Marissa Manley supplied a 2-4 effort for the winners while Kaleigh Zappia singled and scored in the sixth. Alexis Sawyer went 2-3 for Heuvelton and Hannah Thornhill, Abbey Basford, and Alexis Weidner all singled.

Sierra Streeter struckout six and walked three in the win. Logan Tallman pitched very well fanning seven batters allowing five walks and four hits for HCS.

St. Lawrence Central 9 - M-W 4: The Larries scred eight runs in the first three innings to answer a two-run first by M-W. Sam Richards struck out seven pitching into the sixth inning for the Larries while Agans started an eight-hit day by driving in three runs with a homerun, a triple, single and three RBIs. Bailey Stickney doubled and Shakiah Robinson singled twice.

Mariah Patineau and Desirae Pryce each singled and scored twice for M-W. Emily Upstrom also singled twice and Blair Cryderman added a single.
