FORT COVINGTON - The Massena Central varsity baseball team steadily pulled away to an 18-0 NAC interdivisional win at Salmon River Central on Monday.
Isaiah Dillabough pitched the five-inning victory, striking out five and walking just one while surrending just one hit. Jarid Gray had three strikeouts throught the first three and a-third innings in taking the loss. Reno Paquin went the rest of the way in relief.
Josh Miller led a potent Massena offense going 3-4 with six RBI and four runs scored as the Raiders worked their way to a 9-0 lead through the first three innings then broke the game open with a six-run barrage in the top of the fourth. Cullen Baines went 2-3 with a triple and four runs scored. Avery Barney (RBI, 4 rs), Jake Kormanyos (RBI, rs) and Zack Rusaw each stroked singles in the winning effort.
Christian Duncan denied Dillaboughs bid for the no-hitter with a third-inning single.
The Raiders play at Central Division rival Potsdam on Wednesday while the Shamrocks travel to North Division rival St. Lawrence Central. Both games are slated to start at 4:30 p.m.
In the two Central Division games played on Monday, Potsdam beat Gouverneur 21-0 and Franklin Academy turned back OFA 7-6 in nine innings.
Potsdam 21, Gouverneur 0: Lee Buchanan and Brandon Noble both finished 5-6 with three RBI each, Ben Clark recorded a 3-5 effort with a triple and two doubles and three RBI and Trevor Kelleher went 3-4 with two RBI and five runs scored to lift the Stoners (3-1, 1-1) past the host Wildcats (1-1, 0-1.
Ben Miller pitched the win, going four innings and teaming up with Ben Clark on a seven strikeout, two-hit shutout.
Cody Wood and Jake VanOrnum each doubled for Gouverneur. Wood took the loss.
The Sandstoners host Massena on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
FA 7, OFA 6 (9 innings): Brandon Welch stroked a game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Huskies downed OFA in its NAC Central division opener 7-6. OFA pulled into a tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Huskies scored four times in the bottom of rhe sixth.
Seth Pinkerton pitched the final two innings for the Devils and Derek Juntenen picked up the win by throwing three innings in relief.
Pinkerton and Andrew LeBeau each singled twice for OFA and Brendan Arsenault, Breton LaRose and Jon Taylor all singled. Pat Cosmo delivered two sacrifice bunts.
Juntenen singled twice for FA.
The two North Division games on Monday saw Norwood-Norfolk blanked Brushton-Moira 16-0 and St. Lawrence Central outscore Canton 10-3.
N-N 16, B-M 0: At Vern Burrows Field, Cody Smith connected for two doubles and a single and Brandon Short smacked four singles to lead the Flyers (2-1, 2-0) past the visiting Panthers (1-1). Smith fanned seven batters in four innings for the win while Short recorded three strikeouts in three innings in relief as Trov Kovach (single), Kyler MacIntire (2 singles), Chris Stratton (2 singles) and Chris Prashaw (2 singles) also contributed toward the win.
Bobby Hooker, Adam Martin, Tyler Montroy, Brandon Dufrane, and Walker all singled for B-M.
SLC 10, Canton 3: Tyler Savage allowed three hits and struckout 13 for the Larries (1-4, 1-0) who broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fourth against the visiting Bears (1-1, 0-1).
Brett Mahoney stroked a double and single and drove in three runs while Donovan Patraw and Nate McLauglin each singled twice and drove in a run. Dakota Vallance contributed a single and scored three runs. Issac Beckstead, Devon Euto, Tyler Locey all singled.
For Canton, Francesco Palumbo (RBI), Dan Holcomb (rs) and Alden Slack (rs) all singled. Mike Mead took the loss striking out seven and allowing three walks and 12 hits. Justin Holmes pitched two innings in relief and allowed one run and one hit.
East Division action on Monday had Tupper Lake beating Edwards-Knox 12-4 and Madrid-Waddington gaining a twinbill sweep over St. Regis Falls by scores of 9-3 and 5-4.
Tupper Lake 12, E-K 4: Eight runs in the third inning lifted the host Lumberjacks (2-3, 2-1) past Edwards-Knox (1-2, 0-2).
Adam St. Pierre (3-4 triple, 3 RBI), Tim Larkin (2-4), Marcus Richer (2-3, 3 RBI), Garret Planty (2-3, two RBI), and Pierson St. Pierre (2-4) paced Tupper Lakes attack. Planty struckout three in the win going five innings.
Kaden Dandrow went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI for E-K. Tyler Sharpestene finished 2-for-2.
M-W 9-5, SRF 3-4: The Yellowjackets swept the Saints at home 9-3, 5-4 in five inning games to improve to 3-0 in NAC East play.
During game one, M-W scored three times each in the first and second inningas as Terry Crump went four and two-thirds striking out seven and scatterering seven walks and two hits. Alex Brock helped Crump going 2-3 with three RBI while Jacob Mayette (2-2), Harrison VanBuren(2-3 RBI), Jacob Barney (1-3, 2RBI), Zach Brock (1-3) and Jimmy Miller (1-3) all contributed.
Kyle Cox and John Hartz each singled for SRF.
In game two, Austin Scott (three innings, one strikeout, one walk, no earned runs) pitched three innings for the win. James Hunt struckout three and walked none in the two inning save.
Jacob Mayette, Alex Brcck, Zach Brock, and Jonas Pandit all singled for M-W. John Hartz (2-3), Kyle Cox (2-3), Mike Fraser (1-2) and Ian Wood (1-2) connected for SRF (0-2, 0-2 NAC East).
Wood took the loss striking out five in three and two-thirds of work.
The NAC West Division games on Monday saw Harrisville double Clifton-Fine 84 and Morristown drop Heuvelton 7-2.
