Massena girls lacrosse team overpower Saranac Lake

Massena Central overpowered Saranac Lake while Potsdam fell to Canton in overtime in NAC varsity girls lacrosse matchups on Monday.

Massena 22, Saranac Lake 1: At Mike Nicholas Field, the Lady Raiders raced out to a 15-1 halftime lead before going on to raise their NAC record to 6-0 and overall mark to 7-1.

Alisha Jacobs, who made one saves through the course of the first half before giving way to Felicity Love (3 saves), also played a lead role offensively with two goals and four assists.

Shannon Casey and Megan Hans connected for three goals apiece. Courtney Manley (1 assist), Megan Poupore, Shaydi Oakes, Annie Casey and Alanna Pyke each netted two goals. Contributing singletons were Dominique Valancius (1 assist), Hanna Gleason, Bethany Rogers, Emma Dupree and Carlie Leary all tallied singletons while Mia Jermano chipped in a solo assist.

Rita Munn netted the lone Saranac Lake goal while Katey Snyder had seven saves backstopping the Red Storm.

The Lady Raiders are slated to host Salmon River on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Canton 12, Potsdam 10 (OT): In Canton, the Alicia Jones scored her third goal of the game in overtime and that stood as the game-winner as the Lady Bears outlasted the Lady Sandstoners.

Rachel Huntley tallied three goals and an assist in the winning effort while Katleen Lapinski (1 assist), Kate Lumbard and Tessa Knight struck for two goals apiece.

Michaela Cole anchored the Potsdam atack with six goals. Keeley Rice added two goals and an assist. Allie Miller, Kalie Grant (1 assist) and Annette Rishe connected for the othe goals.

Megan Howard had eight saves working the crease for the win while Katelyn Bloom handled eight shots in the loss.

Potsdam is slated to play on the road against OFA on Wednesday on the varsity football field starting at 5:30 p.m.

OFA 12, Heuvelton 10: In a game of Route 812 rivals played in Ogdensburg, Molly Morrow netted five goals and Nikki Holmes struck for another three as the Lady Blue Devils overcame a 7-6 halftime deficit to notch the win.

Emilie Ross and Jackie Sovie netted three goals each in the losing cause.

Erica Chase had six saves backstopping the win and Megan Hamilton stopped 12 shots for Heuvelton.
