Massena Central track teams manage split against Canton

MASSENA - The Massena Central track teams settled for a split at home against NAC rival Canton on Tuesday as the boys claimed a 150.5-79.5 decision while the girls fell 183-126.

In the boys meet, the Raiders scored wins in all but four events led by Andrew Brush, who won the 100 in 11.9 seconds, the 200 in 24.5 seconds and the long jump on 17’10”. Thomas Boudreau swept the weight events for Massena, leading the discus standings at 112’3.5” and the shot put at 36’5” while Lucas Benedict won the 400 hurdles in 1:09.3 and the high jump at 5’10”. Also posting solo firsts for the Raiders were Kyle Nicholson in the 400 with a time of 58.2 seconds, Michael Ortman in the 800 with a time of 2:15.8 and Robert Cameron in the triple jump at 35’1.75”.

Benedict also combined with Nathan Marshall, Zach Fregoe and Hunter Perrine to win the 3,200 relay in 9:42. The foursome of Taylor Brown, Brush, Cameron and Alex Richards teamed up to capture the 300 relay in 49.2 seconds. Fregoe and Nicholson also shared 1,600 relay honors with Cody Coggshell and Carlos Menchon with a winning time of 4:08.5.

The girls meet saw the Lady Raiders manage four wins against the Lady Bears. Jacalyn Lamica sped to wins in the 100 and 200 meter races with respective times of 14.1 seconds and 28.9 seconds. Renee Deruchia paced the 1,500 in 5:37.7 and Amber Cunningham claimed the shot put at 26’3.5”.

MEET IN NORFOLK

In the other NAC meet staged on Tuesday, host Norwood-Norfolk swept the boys division with wins over Madrd-Waddington and Clifton-Fine while the M-W girls gained the sweep.

The boys meet saw N-N down M-W 164.5-76.5 and C-F 167-41. Connor Levison swept the hurdles races for the Flyers, leading the 110 meters in 17.6 seconds and the 400 meters in 1:04.3 while Josh Eng paced the 1,600 in 5:03.1 and the 3,200 in 11:06. Also posting solo firsts for N-N were Brock Simons in the 800 with a time of 2:23.7 and Cody Dominique in the 100 with a time of 11.7 seconds.

The Flyers also swept the three relay races. The foursome of Dominique, Charlie White, Jacob Wellings and Dion Aumell led the 400 in 48.9 seconds. Dominique and Levison teamed up with Dion Aumell and Nick King to lead the 1,600 in 4:03.7 seconds. Eng and King also combined with Deven Grant and Travis Hall to pace the 3,200 in 9:47.

In the girls meet, N-N fell to M-W 166.5-150.5 while outscoring C-F 193.5-79.5 to salvage the split.

Bre Hayes anchored the N-N scoring with wins in the 200 (29.5 seconds), the 400 (1:04.7) and the high jump (4’9”) while finishing second in the 100.

Casey Saucier paced the 800 in 2:38 and the 3,000 in 12:07 to account for the other two individual wins for the Lady Flyers.

The other highlight of the meet for N-N came in the 1,600 relay where Saucier combined with Hannah Segui9n, Cadence Hunkins and Jessica Fulk to post a winning time of 4:49.4.
