LOWVILLE — A kickoff event has been scheduled for Friday to recruit Lewis County residents to participate in a nationwide cancer prevention study.

The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the county courthouse, North State Street, and feature American Cancer Society representatives, volunteers and corporate partners.

The American Cancer Society’s Epidemiology Research program is recruiting men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer for the study. Those interested must enroll in the program, then agree to an initial 20- to 30-minute appointment including a brief survey, waist circumference measurement and blood sample and complete follow-up surveys at home every few years for the next 20 to 30 years.

Local enrollment will be held June 19 at Kraft Foods in Lowville, June 20 at Otis Technology Inc. in Lyons Falls and June 21 at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville.
