Massena, Potsdam girls net contrasting NAC lacrosse road wins

The Massena Central and Potsdam Central girls lacrosse teams posted contrasting NAC road wins on Wednesday.

Massena 18, Salmon River 4: At Fort Covington, the visiting Lady Raiders steadily worked their way to a commanding 11-0 halftime lead before going on to raise their unbeaten NAC record to 6-0.

Megan Poupore (1 assist) and Shaydi Oakes anchored a balanced Massena attack with three goals apiece. Alisha Jacobs tallied two goals and three helpers while Shannon Casey finished with two goals and one assist. Dominique Valancius (1 assist), Kallie Barnes, Stefanie Premo, Emma Dupree, Courtney Manley, Bethany Rogers, Ashlynn O)lson and Alanna Pyke all netted solo goals.

Kiera Thompson paced the Lady Shamrocks with two goals. Tewasherake Barnes and Jenna David struck for the others.

Felicity Love handled six shots working the crease for the win while Ienarostha Thompson posted eight saves in the losing cause.

The Lady Raiders travel to Potsdam to take on the Lady Sandstoners starting at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Shamrocks are slated to host Saranac Lake on Friday.

Potsdam 13, OFA 11: The Sandstoners (4-2 NAC) were extremely efficient with their possessions in the second half as they rallied from a 6-4 deficit. Keely Rice played a key role in the possession game by scoring eight goals and passing out one assist.

Rice scored three unanswered goals sparking the Stoners to an 11-7 lead and netted the last two goals of the game after the Devils pulled into an 11-11 tie on a goal by Nikki Holmes off a pass from Molly Morrow.

Makayla Cole and Nettie Rishe scored twice for Potsdam which also received one goal and three assists from Kalie Grant and two assists from Jenny Tardelli.

Holmes finished with two goals and two assists for OFA which was led in scoring by Mackenzie Bresett who netted three goals and one assist. Kaitlin Sheppard and Hunter Shaver finished with two goals and one assist and Morrow scored one goal and passed out three assists.

Katelyn Bloom fielded eight saves for Potsdam and Erica Chase stopped 11 shots in the OFA goal.

In other girls lacrosse matchups on Wednesday, Heuvelton held on for a 9-8 NAC win at home over Canton while Saranac Lake dropped a 15-4 non-league decision to Northwood Prep.

Heuvelton 9, Canton 8: Aliza Armstrong generated three goals and drew an assist for Heuvelton while Emily Ross and Jackie Sovie each scored three goals. Hamilton had eight saves.

Katelyn Lumbard scored three goals for Canton. Kathleen Lapinski scored two goals and posted an assist. Erica Whinnery, Alicia Jones and Tessa Knight all scored once.

Megan Howard had five saves for the Bears (5-4, 4-3 NAC) who were tied 4-4 at halftime.

Northwood 15, Saranac Lake 4: Haillie Kent had six goals and one assist in the winning effort as Northwood pulled away from a 6-3 halftime lead.

Kaileigh Woodruff paced the Red Storm with two goals while Katey Snyder (17 saves) and Sheila Decker (6 saves) shared crease duties.
