Massena softball team handles Potsdam in NAC Central opener


POTSDAM - The Massena Central varsity softball team got the 2012 NAC Central Division season off to an overwhelming start on Wednesday, pushing across 21 runs in their first at-bat en route to downing Potsdam Central 31-6 in five innings.

Marissa Manley pitched the win as the Lady Raiders belted out 29 hits. Kelsey Green was tagged with the loss.

Kayleigh Zappia and Bailey Dillabaugh. Kharlene Garrow, Mackenzie Young, Chelsea Streeter and Sierra Streeter all finished with three hits.

Erica Mallott, Kelsey Green and Jordan Emerson all stroked two hits for Potsdam.

Massena is slated to play at Gouverneur today starting at 4:30 p.m. while Potsdam heads to OFA on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.

In the other Central Division action on Wednesday, Franklin Academy swept a twinbill from Gouverneur by scores of 12-4 and 4-2 while OFA gained a 6-4 interdivisional win over Brushton-Moira.

FA 12-4, Gouverneur 4-2: The Huskies swept the Wildcats 12-4, 4-2 to improve to 4-1, 3-1 in NAC Central as Emily Marshall struckout nine and allowed just two hits in the first game. Shea awas aided by two singles and a double and three RBI from Janelle Heden and two singles each from Morgan Fountain, Hailey Trim and Katie Lavoie.

Nictoria Bates stroked a double for Gouverneur while Jordan Lay added a single. Jaelyn Gotham struckout five in the setback.

In game two, Annie Sharlow fanned 10 batters in a five hitter for the Huskies.

Whitney Legacy and Sharlow each singtled twice. Fountain, Lavoie and Lamica all singled.

Rachel Hooley singled twice for Gouverneur (1-6, 1-4). Prashaw, Bates, and Lay all singled. Gotham took the loss in relief of Kortney Bishop.

OFA 6, B-M 4: The Lady Devils (4-1) outrallied Brushton-Moira (1-3) and for a fourth straight game the issue was decided in the sixth or seventh inning.

In the top of the seventh B-M of the NAC North broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI double by Sandy Martin.

The Devils answered with three in the bottom of the inning when Brittany Barr singled, Stacy Barr ripped an RBI double, Mackenzie Cole walked and Felicia Barr crushed a walkoff two-run double.

Brittany Barr doubled and singled to drive in three runs on the day and Stacy Barr doubled and singled to drive in two runs.

Winning pitcher MaKenzi Stevenson stroked two singles and Cole, Jocelyn Fifield and MacKenzee Holland all added singles.

Emily LaPage tripled for B-M, Sandra Martin lined two singles and a double and Emily OConnor stroked two singles.
