MASSENA - Village police charged two Franklin County women with felony drug sale counts Wednesday night stemming from separate incidents earlier this year.
Village police charged Leah T. Benedict, 35, of 203 County Route 1, Bombay, with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance Wednesday evening after she was taken into custody on an arrest warrant at the port of entry in Rooseveltown.
She allegedly sold eight Oxycontin pills in January in the village of Massena.
Benedict was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
Police also charged Samantha H. Skidders, 24, of 71 Center St., Fort Covington, with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance late Wednesday night. She allegedly sold four Oxycontin pills on the evening of Jan. 4 in the village of Massena.
She was also picked up on an arrest warrant late Wednesday night at the port of entry in Rooseveltown.
Skidders was arraigned by Judge Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.
Police said the arrests stemmed from two different investigations.
Village police have launched efforts in recent months to address concerns over prescription drug abuse in the community.
